Lily Pad Relay Race

Cross the moat to the castle with this fun relay game. In advance, cut four large circular pieces from green poster board (you can color plain cardboard as well). These green card board circles will be your lily pads and each lily pad should be approximately 12-15 inches in diameter. This size is plenty to hold a small kids comfortably but not always. If you like you can make the lily pads more realistic you can draw the veins on the leaves. Now divide your party guests/kids into two teams (A and B) and give the first person in each team two lily pads. They will be using these lily pads to step on as they travel to the end of the room, and back to the next team member. Place one lily pad on the ground, step on it with both feet, place the next one down, and hop onto it. While standing on the second lily pad, pick up the first one and place it in front again. When the first guest is finished, pass lily pads to the second player. If they lose their balance and step outside the lily pad then they need to start over again. Repeat until everyone in each team finishes. This relay game will keep everyone laughing and entertained for sure. Winning team gets special treats!!

GI Joe Building Muscles

GI Joe has to be strong in order to save the country. Try this quick workout to get your little Joes in good shape! To prepare, recruit some help to inflate 50 to 100 small balloons. Divide the guests into two teams. Select one guest on each team to be the "weakling," the remaining guests will be "commanding officers." Gather teams on opposite sides of the room and divide the balloons between them. Have each weakling put a union suit (one-piece long underwear) over their clothes. When you say "GO," the commanding officers must make the weaklings grow instant muscles by stuffing as many balloons as possible into the union suits. Give the teams one minute to do this. When time is up, let everyone admire the weaklings' new muscles (have a camera handy to take great pictures). Then remove and count the balloons, the team that used the most balloons, wins! Try again with new weaklings.

Play-Doh Clowns

This activity is wonderful for the younger ones who are still developing their coordination and tool handling skills. Simply purchase several containers of Play-Doh and enough clown, circus animal, or fun-shaped cookie cutters for each guest to have one. Before you start, be sure to put a protective covering like a thicker vinyl sheet on your play surface so it doesn't get damaged. Then, place a small amount of Play-Doh and one cookie cutter in front of each guest. This activity is sure to keep their hands and imaginations busy for a while, and later your guests can take their cookie cutter and left over Play-Doh home as a reminder of your wonderful party!

Fairy Magic

You will need to find five pennies with different dates on them for the birthday activity. Decorate a small satchel or pouch to be a fairy bag and place the pennies in the fairy bag. You can use sequins, ribbons and glue to decorate the pouch. Now pick a guest and ask them to pick a penny from the bunch and look at the date, but tell them not to disclose it yet. Now ask the guest to pass the penny around so that everyone can look at the date and make a mental note. Quickly put the penny back into the fairy bag, and touch the bag with a fairy wand. A decorated straw or any stick-like object works well as a magical wand. Now ask the birthday child to pick the chosen penny from the fairy bag. The birthday child will correctly pick the penny out of the bag and show it to all the guest. This is boung to make the kids believe that the magic really worked.

The secret? The birthday child will know which penny was chosen first because coppesr absorbs heat, and the penny everyone has held in their hands will be warm. You will need to inform the birthday kid about the trick before hand. You can try it a few more times with other kids before giving out the secret to the general public. Once everyone knows how the trick really works, let all the children take a turn at picking the pennies.

Tiger Tails

For this activity you'll need a bag of your child's favorite wrapped candy, masking tape, as well as a belt and a strip of cloth for each child. (Players are divided in 2 teams of tigers, so buy two different colors of cloth.) Pick teams and tie a strip of cloth to each player's belt. Place several handfuls of candy in the center of the room and mark 2 safety lines at opposite ends of the room. Teams stand in the safety zones, facing each other. At your signal, tigers rush to the center and grab as much candy as they can, while trying to pull the tails of tigers on the opposing team. If a tiger's tail is pulled, he must leave the game, and his candy is lost. Tigers who safely return to their zone leave their candy and can go back for more until it is all gone. The team with the most pieces at the end, wins!
