Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup corn syrup, 1/3 cup water, 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 cup butter, 1 tsp. vanilla
- food coloring (a few drops; try purple or blue!)
- 10 cups popped popcorn
- 2 cups chopped gumdrops
You'll also need baking sheets, colored cellophane, ribbon and scissors.
Combine corn syrup, water, sugar and salt in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves and mixture comes to a strong boil. Remove from heat and whisk in butter and vanilla. Add food coloring slowly to determine color. In a separate bowl, mix popcorn with chopped gumdrops. Then pour the warm mixture over the popcorn and candy, tossing until well coated. Spread on baking sheets. When cool enough to handle, form popcorn balls. Carefully wrap balls in squares of colored cellophane, tie with a bright ribbon, and store in a tightly closed container. Serves 10.
