When the cupcakes are completely cool, peel off the liners and set the cupcakes on a separate plate. Frost the cupcakes with your child’s favorite kind of frosting. Create clown faces using frosting tubes, candies, nuts, seeds, and other decorations. Turn the cupcakes on their side, so the faces point outward, towards you.
Next, fill pointed ice cream cones with a scoop of ice cream (or frozen yogurt) and place each one upside down on the top of the cupcakes to make hats. Make sure the cupcakes are turned on their sides, so the faces are not covered by the hats. (If you have trouble keeping the hats on, stick a toothpick into the cupcake and spear the hat on top.) Decorate the cone hats with dots of frosting. Place a cherry on top, securing it with a dot of frosting as well. Place in freezer until party time!
